Community Justice Centre (CJC) Northern Territory - Graduates and Members Information Page

Mediation Institute is delighted to offer support and services to graduates and members of the NT CJC who due to policy changes need to change their Recognised Mediator Accreditation Body (RMAB) or need to complete their assessment for NMAS Accreditation through an alternative RMAB. 

What is your situation?

Accreditation Transfer

You’re a current CJC NT NMAS Accredited Mediator but need to transfer to an alternative RMAB (Recognised Mediator Accreditation Body) due to policy changes at CJC NT. 

Assessment

You’ve completed your NMAS Training with the CJC NT but have been told that you need to complete your assessment for NMAS Accreditation with a different provider. 

1st NMAS Accreditation 

You’ve completed the Training and Assessment and are eligible to apply for NMAS Accreditation but are unable to apply for accreditation through CJC NT. 

Detail about NMAS Accreditation Tranfers

This applies if you are currently NMAS Accredited through CJC NT

If you are currently a NMAS Mediator who is accredited through CJC NT and being asked to transfer your accreditation to another RMAB. 

We would be delighted to accept your application to transfer to Mediation Institute. 

If you are already accredited transferring your accreditation is an administrative process.

What’s the process to transfer?

  • Complete the Application to Transfer your NMAS Accreditation Form 
  • Mediation Institute will contact CJC NT to confirm your accreditation history and that you have applied to transfer
  • You will be invoiced for the appropriate membership fee. See the table below. 
  • Once the fee is paid and the information obtained we will proceed with the transfer notifying the Mediator Standards Board (MSB) and CJC NT to finalise the process
  • Mediation Institute will then be your accrediting RMAB and complaint handling service 

What does it cost?

The full cost for Mediation Institute for 2 years is currently $260 including GST.  You would not be required to pay the $100 additional fee which your accrediting RMAB collects on your behalf and pays to the MSB. 

  • Less than 6 months till your renewal of accreditation – $0
  • Between 6 and 12 months till your renewal – $65
  • Between 12 and 18 months till your renewal – $130
  • Mor than 18 months till your renewal – $195

Detail about the NMAS Assessment Program

This applies if you have not yet been assessed for NMAS Accreditation.

 

The NMAS Assessment program is for people who have completed their mediation training within the rules established by the National Mediator Accreditation System (NMAS) and now need to be assessed for competence. 

To assist with the transition being undertaking at Community Justice Centre Northern Territory (CJC NT) if you can provide evidence of training with CJC NT not more than 6 months ago (certificate of training completion date) we will offer free Membership and Accreditation for your first accreditation period. 

What’s included?

  • refresher training through online learning
  • participation as an observer and/or role player in online mediation role plays
  • a practice online mediation role play as the mediator 
  • an individual mentoring session to work on any areas necessary before your assessment (optional but recommended) 
  • your assessment for NMAS Accreditation 
  • re-assessment (a 2nd assessment role play) if necessary
  • free NMAS membership and accreditation fee (normally $360 for two years) 

What does it cost?

The full cost is $990 including GST 

How do I enrol?

Two ways:

  • You can email our office a copy of your Certificate of Training and request an invoice. Contact Us
  • You can enrol online and then send us the certificate. You won’t be able to start the course until we have confirmed eligibility. NMAS Assessment Program

 

Detail about your 1st NMAS Accreditation Application

This applies if you have not yet applied for NMAS Accreditation

Once you have successfully completed your NMAS Assessment you are eligible to apply for assessment.

Under the NMAS your training and assessment with any eligible Recognised Mediator Accreditation Body (RMAB) must be recognised by others.

There are some rules that apply such as:

  • You must apply for accreditation within six months of your assessment
  • you must be covered by professional indemnity insurance or have statutory immunity
  • you must be of good character  

What’s included?

  • NMAS Accreditation – we collect $100 for this of which $90 is paid to the Mediator Standards Board on your behalf and put your name on the national register of mediators
  • Mediation Institute practitioner membership. $260 for two years. 
  • Complaint handling (for your work as a mediator, FDRP and/or Family Group Conference Facilitator)
  •  professional development (delivered online) either free or at a discounted member rate 

What does it cost?

The full cost is currently $360 including GST

Can I pay by instalment?

No. Membership is a one-off payment due to the fact that we will be issuing you a certificate indicating that you have Accreditation and Membership for 2 years.

If you are not yet trained, become NMAS accredited through us.

What’s included?

  • Training to NMAS Standards – fully online and self-paced  
  • Participation as an observer and/or role player in online mediation role plays (minimum of 6 as a role player)
  • A practice online mediation role plays as the mediator (3 practice role plays as the mediator) 
  • An individual mentoring session to work on any areas necessary before your assessment (optional but recommended) 
  • Your assessment for NMAS Accreditation 
  • Re-assessment (a 2nd assessment role play) if necessary

What does it cost?

The full cost is currently $3,650. GST is not payable on this training.

Yes. We offer 2 options for interest free instalments as standard. 

  • 2 x monthly instalments of $1,825
