Culturally Appropriate Family Group Conferencing

This video from North America shows how the family group conferencing model is being used in social services to help families to step up to care for their children when there have been problems causing the need for social services to step in.

The model adapts well to the traditional decision-making models of indigenous cultures in many parts of the world from most of the world before the “nuclear family” concept was developed in western societies to accommodate the needs of the industrial revolution.

Becoming a Family Group Conferencing Facilitator

Family Group Conferencing is beginning to become more widely adopted, lead by the NSW Department of Justice and Communities in New South Wales.

We hope that more states and not-for-profit community organisations will adopt the model which empowers extended families and communities.

Mediation Institute offers a certificate course in Family Group Conferencing through blended learning. Online learning followed by a two-day workshop where you have the opportunity to ask questions, discuss and participate in role plays.

We offer ongoing enrolment and can run workshops in regional areas if your organisation has sufficient people to justify a workshop.

Current FGC Practitioners seeking Professional Development are welcome to register to attend a workshop for $595 for the two days for non-members and $395 for Mediation Institute Members. Membership is $260 for two years.

We are running an FGC Webinar on the 28th February 2020 for Mi Members and Students to assist with the NSW FGC Contractor Tender which opens in February 2020.
