Acknowledgement of Country
At Mediation Institute, we honour the Traditional Custodians of the lands on which we live, work and gather.
We begin by acknowledging the Traditional Custodians of the land on which our virtual and physical gatherings take place.
I recognise and pay deep respect to their enduring connection to Country—the lands, waters, skies, and communities that sustain us.
I honour Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples and their Elders, past, present, and emerging. I commit to listening, learning, and truth-telling as part of our shared journey toward a more just and respectful future.
Why Acknowledgement Matters
Acknowledging Country is an important practice that
- Pays respect to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples as the custodians of Country.
-
Recognised their continuous connection to land, waters, culture and community.
-
Encourages reflection, learning and truth telling.
-
Reminds us of our shared responsibility in reconciliation.

“Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Australia is made up of many different and distinct groups, each with their own culture, customs, language and laws. They are the world’s oldest surviving culture; cultures that continue to be expressed in dynamic and contemporary ways.” AIATIS Website

Cultural Safety and Respect
Cultural safety is the ongoing practice of creating environments where Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples feel respected, heard, and safe to be themselves.
It requires awareness of power, privilege, bias, and the historical context that shapes current experiences.
At Mediation Institute, we strive to embed cultural safety across our teaching, practice, and interactions.
Our Commitment
Mediation Institute is committed to fostering respect, equality, and inclusion in all areas of our work.
Acknowledging Country is one step in our broader commitment to reconciliation—one that asks us to listen with openness, learn with humility, and act with integrity.
We invite all who engage with us to deepen their learning, explore the resources above, and take part in building a more connected and respectful Australia.
