Completing your mediation training is an important milestone. During your course, you spend time working with experienced trainers, practising role-plays, and building the skills needed to facilitate dispute-resolution processes.
But many practitioners discover that the real learning begins once they start practising.
Real disputes bring real emotions, unexpected dynamics, and complex situations that no training scenario can fully replicate. At some point, most mediators wish they could sit down with a trainer again to talk through a situation.
A mediation that did not go as expected
A challenging party dynamic
Preparing for an upcoming session
Navigating a difficult moment during online mediation
This is where ongoing professional support becomes valuable.
At Mediation Institute, we understand that becoming a mediator is not the end of the learning journey. Professional practice develops through reflection, experience, and guidance from those who have worked in the field for many years.
That is why we offer one-on-one mentoring sessions with experienced trainers and practitioners.
These sessions provide a private and supportive space where you can discuss real situations from your practice and gain insights from professionals who understand the complexities of mediation.
Each mentoring session includes a one-hour private video meeting with a professional mentor.
The discussion is tailored to your needs and may focus on:
Preparing for an upcoming mediation or role play
Debriefing after a challenging case
Exploring strategies for managing difficult dynamics
Building confidence in online or video mediation
Developing particular mediation techniques
Discussing professional practice or business development
Because the session is individual, the time can be spent exploring the questions or situations that matter most to you.
Individual mentoring sessions are valuable for practitioners at different stages of their professional journey, including:
AMDRAS mediators in training or already practising
Family Dispute Resolution Practitioners (FDRPs)
Family Group Conference facilitators
Conflict Management for One Practitioner
Students seeking additional support as they develop their skills
Experienced practitioners wanting to reflect on complex cases
Even highly experienced mediators benefit from professional reflection and discussion.
Note: Individual mentoring is included within our AMDRAS (COA Support Package) and FDR training programs. If you are currently enrolled in these courses, please contact the training team before booking.
Mentoring is not about assessment or evaluation. Instead, it provides a confidential professional conversation where you can reflect on your practice, explore different approaches, and gain perspective from experienced dispute resolution professionals.
Sometimes the most valuable part of mentoring is simply having the opportunity to talk through a situation with someone who understands the work.
Once you book your mentoring session and select your mentor, they will contact you to arrange a mutually convenient time for your one-hour video meeting.
This allows you to access support when you need it most.
Mediation is a profession built on continuous learning, reflection, and professional development. Access to experienced mentors can help you strengthen your skills, build confidence, and navigate the complexities of real dispute resolution work.
