Frequently Asked Questions
What are the requirements for initial AMDRAS accreditation?
To apply for initial AMDRAS accreditation you need to have completed an AMDRAS-recognised training program and demonstrated core mediation competencies. Mi’s Certificate of Training (COT) meets this requirement. Contact us if you trained elsewhere and want to confirm your training is recognised.
Can I transfer my AMDRAS accreditation from another RAP to Mediation Institute?
Yes. If you currently hold AMDRAS accreditation through another Recognised Accreditation Provider, you can transfer to Mediation Institute. Contact us before applying so we can check your transfer eligibility.
What CPD do I need to renew?
AMDRAS renewal requires evidence of ongoing practice and CPD hours. Mi’s CPD register makes it easy to track your hours as you go. Specific requirements are set by AMDRAS — contact us for current renewal criteria.
What if I also do FDR work — do I need a separate FDR registration?
AMDRAS Accredited Mediator Membership covers mediation accreditation. Family Dispute Resolution Practitioners (FDRPs) must separately register with the Attorney-General’s Department. Mi’s Graduate Diploma in Family Dispute Resolution (CHC81115) is the qualification pathway for FDR registration.
What’s the difference between AMDRAS Accredited Mediator Membership and the AMDRAS Practicum?
The AMDRAS Practicum is a training and assessment program for mediators applying for Advanced Mediator accreditation renewal — it is not the same as the membership itself. If you’re an experienced mediator seeking Advanced accreditation renewal, see the Mi Practicum page for details ($1,450, or $1,150 for members).
