Mediation Institute Training Update: November 2021
Final FGC Workshop for 2020
Message from Joanne,
There is still time to complete your NMAS training before the end of the year but you’ll have to focus. We’ve noticed a drop off in role play activity so if that is affecting your role plays speak to Cynthia to let her know you are keen. Make sure you commit if you do sign up as a mediator or role player as last minute drop outs causes significant inconvenience to your fellow learners.
We had a very interesting last FGC online workshop for 2021 with participants from Cambodia and New York State in the US as this family based decision making model spreads throughout the world. The next workshop will be in Feb 2022. We are still not scheduling face to face but will resume that for at least some of our FGC workshops once it is safe and appropriate to do so. That said COVID has resulted in even FGC meetings happening online so like all other forms of mediation remote delivery of services is likely here to stay.
Welcome to our newest Family Dispute Resolution students. We will continue enrolling and role player for all our courses up till the end of year holidays which start on the 20th December. The office will officially be back on the 17th January but some of the mentors are open to mentoring role plays the week before so if you are able to arrange with other students a role play reach out to the mentoring team if it is before the offical start of the year in the scheduler.
Remember that International Mediation Awareness Week is on the 8th – 12th November. It is free to register and there are keynotes, mock mediations, webinars for the public (interesting for mediators wanting to learn about different styles) and webinars for mediators. If you can stay up for 8 – 10 pm (QLD time zone) there is going to be an international panel debate on the topic of whether western style mediation is suitable in a multi-cultural world.

What our students say

Opportunity would be to refresh the role play scenarios but I believe that is happening. Also to update the videos of the role plays, I found these to be very helpful, maybe make them shorter Also I would have liked training on the pre mediation - and I believe that is also coming soon !!! Thanks again, you are all so dedicated and passionate and that made the whole experience enjoyable
