Centacare Family & Relationship Services is seeking to appoint a full time Family Dispute Resolution Practitioner at the Family Relationship Centre Ashmore. We are seeking a dedicated and experienced practitioner who will assist in the provision of high quality, professional and accountable, family dispute resolution services. The role will offer opportunities to support and work with diverse families and complex needs.

For a role of this nature, highly effective communication and interpersonal skills and a high degree of professionalism and integrity in working with clients, colleagues, and community stakeholders is required. There will be opportunities to participate in consultative and collaborative strategies with other practitioners. Some after-hours work is required to provide equitable services for clients.

Essential Qualifications:

  • Relevant tertiary qualifications in Social Work, Psychology, Social or Behavioural Sciences, from a recognised tertiary institution.  Eligibility for membership of APS, AASW, or similar recognised professional association.
  • Qualifications in family dispute resolution (FDR), and registration as a Family Dispute Resolution Practitioner along with demonstrated knowledge, skills and experience in FDR including mediating with families from diverse cultural backgrounds.

The position available is a full time, 38 hours per week position. The remuneration package is Social Community, Home Care and Disability Services Industry Award, Level 5 with an above award payment (pro rata based on hours worked) for accredited FDRPs. Proof of current registration is required on commencement of employment.

About the Role

We are currently seeking applications for the part-time role (22.5 hours per week) of Regional Family Dispute Resolution Practitioner located at our Mackay venue.

The purpose of this role is to provide high quality family dispute resolution and conciliation services to assist families to develop and implement parenting plans and property agreements when they are separating, have separated or divorced.

The major responsibilities of this position include:

  • Applying theoretical models of conflict resolution, specifically family dispute resolution, child development, and other relevant frameworks in the mediation process;
  • Facilitating equitable participation of both parties in the mediation process and assisting clients to generate and negotiate options;
  • Applying knowledge of issues specific to couples who may be separating or divorcing;
  • Demonstrating a knowledge of theories regarding grief and power;
  • Conducting client assessment and intake of client needs to make appointments, provide relevant information, make appropriate referrals and link to treatment plan;
  • Maintaining confidentiality and duty of care, including identification of domestic and family violence.

Work days/hours will be negotiated with the successful applicant, however please note that the position holder will be required to work an evening shift (12pm to 8pm) up to once a week, with some flexibility needed in order to meet business requirements.

About You

To be successful in this position, you will possess relevant undergraduate qualifications in the Social or Behavioural Sciences and/or Law, as well having current FDR Accreditation, or the ability to obtain and maintain FDR Accreditation and Vocational Graduate Diploma of Family Dispute Resolution.  Demonstrated experience and theoretical knowledge of dispute resolution and mediation is also preferred.

The salary being offered is circa $54,701 to $64,549 per annum pro rata, to be negotiated depending upon qualifications and experience, plus superannuation and generous salary packaging options where eligible which will significantly increase the value of take-home pay. Other attractive benefits are available including additional annual leave over the Christmas period, annual leave loading and study leave.

  • Undertake client intake, risk and needs assessment at the intake to obtain relevant information and screen for risk factors to inform an assessment as appropriate for mediation.
  • Utilise the FDR delivery mode which best meets client needs e.g. face-to-face, telephone, online, shuttle, legally assisted, child inclusive mediation, as identified in the intake and through continuous assessment.
  • Develop, maintain and share knowledge of internal and external services that are available to support clients e.g. Rainbow services, DFV network, family support network, interpretive services, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Island and CALD supports.

Work days for this position will be Monday to Friday with an evening shift once a week on either a Wednesday or Thursday (11am – 7pm).

About You

About the Role

Our Family Relationship Centre is seeking a tertiary qualified and experienced Family Dispute Resolution Practitioner. In this role you will:

  • Provide support to families by facilitating negotiations, offering early intervention and prevention, community education and support services
  • Undertake client intake, risk and needs assessment
  • Undertake family dispute resolution and case management with couples, families and individuals
  • Conduct assessments of clients and make appropriate referrals

About You

To be successful in this role, you will have:

  • A Tertiary qualification in Psychology, Social Work, Law, or Family Dispute Resolution / Mediation.
  • Experience in family dispute resolution and child-focused practices
  • Be an accredited FDRP or the ability to obtain registration
  • Current drivers licence
  • Ability to obtain a Yellow and Blue Card
