The Dispute Settlement Centre of Victoria (DSCV) has an exciting opportunity for a Dispute Resolution Practitioner (DRP) to join its Fast Track Mediation and Hearing (FTMH) team. The FTMH program was formed in September 2017 and is a partnership between DSCV and the Victorian Civil and Administrative Tribunal (VCAT). It directly responds to Recommendation 4.2 in the Access to Justice Review. Established in 1987 the DSCV, as part of the Department of Justice and Community Safety, Regulation Division, and offers state-wide dispute resolution services for both community and civil disputes. DSCV's purpose is to empower and assist the Victorian community to prevent and appropriately resolve issues, alleviate pressure on the judicial system and help the community to thrive.
About the role
The role of the DRP is promote, conduct and deliver exemplary dispute resolution services to parties in dispute in partnership with the VCAT for matters in the Civil (Good and Services) List, on site at Court, Tribunal or based at one of our metropolitan or regional locations. DRP's are required to assist in the delivery of a variety of alternative dispute resolution (ADR) services across Victoria. This may include face to face or by telephone the provision of information, support and assisted settlements. The DRP's are responsible for end to end file management such as conducting intake with parties, entering information and maintaining confidential file notes in Caseworks and support listing the matter for the most appropriate and suitable ADR service.
It is highly preferable you hold National Accreditation as a mediator or have undertaken similar training and have industry experience. A legal qualification or studying in this discipline and/or experience working within a Court or Tribunal environment highly desirable.
You will be committed to proving a high level of customer/client service and an ability to multi-task and interpret complex information, robustly question and respond to inquiries. You will be able to operate with a degree of autonomy, maturity, resilience and initiative and be committed to actively demonstrating the Department core values of serve the community, work together, act with integrity, respect other people and make it happen.
