Interrelate is a community based, not-for-profit organisation that has been a leading provider of quality relationship services in New South Wales since 1926. We have a network of centres across metropolitan, regional and rural New South Wales. Each year, we help over 70,000 individuals, couples, families and children to develop better communication, effective solutions and strong relationships.

We are currently seeking applicants to fill a vacancy for either a fully qualified Family Dispute Resolution Practitioner (FDRP) or a Trainee that is currently working towards a qualification for our Family Relationship Centre in the Western Region. The Family Relationship Centre is an initiative of the Australian Government to provide families (whether together or separated) with access to information about family relationship issues, ranging from building better relationships to dispute resolution. This position is responsible to conduct family dispute resolution/mediation sessions with clients of the Centre.

This role will either be Permanent Full Time (37.5 hours per  for the qualified role, or Fixed Term Full Time for a period of up to 12 months whilst the Trainee is completing their Traineeship.

This role will be primarily based in Dubbo, however will require travel to Outreach locations within the region.

The successful applicant must hold current accreditation with the Attorney General's Department as an Family Dispute Resolution Practitioner. Fully Qualified Key Requirements:

  1. Relevant tertiary qualifications in behavioural or social science, mediation or family law
  2. Current or imminent accreditation as a Family Dispute Resolution Practitioner with the Attorney General's Department
  3. Minimum 3 years’ experience in therapeutic work with families/ children (e.g. counselling, mediation, family law or welfare)
  4. Understanding of the impact of family separation and breakdown on children
  5. Demonstrated skills in managing high parental conflict whilst upholding the best interest of the children.

Trainee Key Requirements:

  1. Relevant tertiary qualifications in behavioural or social science/counselling/mediation or family law OR working towards these
  2. Current enrollment in an approved dispute resolution/mediation/conciliation course that leads to a qualification as a registered FDRP
  3. Understanding of the impact of family separation and breakdown on children
  4. Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  5. Demonstrated capacity to develop skills in managing high parental conflict whilst upholding the best interests of the children
