The Family Advocacy And Support Services (Fass) Program: Service Delivery And Expansion

The Family Advocacy and Support Services (FASS) Program: Service Delivery and Expansion

Thursday, 29 September 2022 from 1:00pm to 2:15pm (AEST)

Please join us for a presentation from Sophie Meehan, Manager of Family Law Projects at Victoria Legal Aid, in conversation with a Family Advocacy and Support Services (FASS) duty lawyer discussing the recent expansion of the FASS program to regional locations and the inclusion of mental health supports within the program offerings.

FASS is an integrated service providing duty lawyer assistance and holistic social supports for people impacted by family violence with matters in the family law courts. FASS has been operating at the Melbourne and Dandenong registries of the Federal Circuit and Family Court of Australia (FCFCOA). Following the announcement of Commonwealth funding in 2021, FASS is now being expanded to the seven regional FCFCOA circuit locations of Warrnambool, Geelong, Ballarat, Bendigo, Shepparton, Mildura and Morwell. In additional to the provision of duty lawyer and family violence social supports, mental health supports are also being introduced into the FASS program.

The webinar will cover what FASS is and how it operates, who can access FASS and the types of assistance available as well as how to refer clients to FASS. The presenters will consider a client case study that illustrates the collaborative and holistic assistance available for people affected by family violence in the family law courts.
